2022-23 APASA Advocacy Theme: #TheRighttoHeal

We live in a divisive world where many communities experience relentless violence and oppression. We face racist, discriminatory taunts at our identity, sometimes disguised as microaggressions and jokes and, at worst, translated into violence. We especially feel its harmful effects when we fear for our family’s and friends’ safety, which, within the APIDA community, became increasingly prevalent during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Anti-Asian rhetoric that followed COVID increased Anti-Asian hate crimes and harmed us both physically and emotionally.

Now, we claim #TheRighttoHeal.

We want to give ourselves the space to heal together, uplift our voices, and fight for our human rights. We celebrate the beauty in all of our diverse backgrounds and experiences, building bridges within our community and with other communities. We will work to confront social issues, provide mutual aid and support one another, and advocate against oppressive systems that affect us all.

#TheRighttoHeal is an advocacy campaign that is rooted in community power and healing.
