Asia in our Backyard

Who wouldn’t want to travel to the various countries within Asia-- to experience the vivacious cultures, taste deliciously different foods, and witness the the wondrous scenery and sights? Well, why spend thousands of dollars and take 12+ hour long flights across the Pacific Ocean when we have Asia in our backyard? This year, APASA’s interns tried to push their allotted event budget as much as they could to create “Asia in Our Backyard”, focusing providing awareness about Los Angeles’s various ethnic cultural towns.

Community Fair and Dinner 2018

The APASA Community Fair + Dinner was part of the Asian Pacific American Heritage Festival, a multi-week celebration of Asian Pacific American (APA) culture. The Community Fair + Dinner occured on Friday, March 30, 2018 in the TCC Forum. It featured a variety of community cultural organizations from the Los Angeles area including: Kizuna, LEAP, Tuesday Night Cafe, APAIT, Little Tokyo Service Center, A3M, Kollaboration, and Satrang. Some notable guests included: Sean Miura (Buzzfeed), Jen Ruggirello (Buzzfeed), and Jonathan Wang (APASS). Guests of the event were able to speak to representatives from community organizations, learning more about their causes and ways to get involved

Isha is the co-president of SCAPE, a CIRCLE TA for APASS, and an intern at the Korea Community and Youth Center. Peers describe her as "someone who strives to lead and make an impact without raising her voice above others or taking up too much space."

APASA's Got Talent 2018

Hey everyone! I’m Amanda, an APASA intern, and I hope you all survived the week to make it to spring break! So, APASA’s Got Talent was last Saturday, and I can honestly say it was one of my favorite events we’ve had all year! We got to see 7 contestants of all different APA backgrounds and identities perform and receive feedback from our 4 celebrity judges, Shawn Halim, Megan Lee, JamieBoy, and Samica! We also had bomb Dulce pastries (my personal favorite was the matcha cream-filled donut).

Spicy Spring Semester 🌶

Hello, everyone! I hope everyone’s semester is going swell so far. I can’t believe it’s already week 9! While we work our butts off for midterms, I think the world also wants us to freeze our butts off. Honestly California, your 50 degree weather feels like -50 degrees. (LOL, can you tell I’ve lived in SoCal my whole life?) Because I’m not good with the cold, I sometimes enjoy bringing warmth (actually more like flamin’ heat) into my life by consuming spicy food!
